TruckersChoice.com :: Industry News July 2008 UPDATE
Women In Trucking Jeana Hysell joined the Women In Trucking Association last year because she wanted to network with other women who have found success in the trucking industry. Now, Jeana has become a role model by being named the first Ohio Trucking Association’s Safety Professional of the Year award. This distinction was earned by setting an example as a trucking company safety manager who has exhibited outstanding efforts in the industry. Hysell is currently the Safety Director for Classic Carriers, Inc. in Versailles, Ohio. After serving in the military, she entered the trucking industry as a professional driver, and has more than two million accident free miles. She is active in safety and image committees, and serves the Ohio Trucking Safety Council. Her passion in furthering the goals of Women In Trucking is evident, as she has chosen to use the $1,000 honorarium received to help other women find success in the trucking industry by setting up a scholarship for women with the help of the Association. “Women In Trucking represents not just women but equality within the transportation industry to help educate and pursue successes,” said Hysell. “I would have not been able to receive this type of award if it wasn’t for the drivers who allowed me to shine and for all the women in this industry that were before me and after.” “Jeana has set an example, not only for her peers in the area of safety, but for all women who are already or are considering a career in transportation,” said Ellen Voie, President/CEO of Women In Trucking, Inc. “We are honored that she has chosen to use her award to assist other women so that they can find success in this industry.” Women In Trucking, Inc. (www.WomenInTrucking.org) was established to encourage the employment of women in the trucking industry, promote their accomplishments and minimize obstacles faced by women in trucking. Formed in 2007, the organization already has nearly 1100 corporate and individual members (men and women) to encourage women to succeed in the trucking industry.

can help you present your company as top grade! Truck Drivers National Health “Walk a Mile America"
Through our years of serving this industry we have compiled a list of health issues the trucking industry should be addressing immediately, but more importantly, we also learned that truck drivers, like the general public, are being bombarded with ads, potions and promises of products that will keep them awake, take care of their stress or cover up the symptoms of a painful illness, and not provided with information and assistance on how to deal with he cause of the real problem. After all, once you know your blood pressure is high, you don't need 3 more readings to tell you that you need to do something about it. You need to learn how to address the PROBLEM, its causes and where to get supportive help. Truck Stop Events still believes drivers want to be educated on good health products and they still want programs they can use as over the road drivers. Truck Stop Events is a non-profit health and wellness tour serving over 25 truck plazas, 5 different state rest areas and 5 truck shows. Truck Stop Events wants to do something about the information gap. So starting in 2008 we will begin our phase two program known as Walk a Mile America. With our help we're confident we can continue to spread the message of good health and wellness programs. The “Walk a Mile America" programs will be offering free health testing programs, health related information, and some ways that truck drivers can motivate them selves (informational games like PENNY PINCHER) to get in shape or live a healthier truck driving life style. With Walk a Mile America our goal is to give truck drivers the confidence, stamina, motivation, and incentive to walk their first mile. That may not sound like much to the average American, but to a great number of truck drivers a program of regular exercise added to their daily routine will be a huge accomplishment. Walk A Mile America's 48' foot trailer is a moving information center that will administer to over 150,000 truck drivers annually in a classroom setting where basic health tests can be provided and health related information can be distributed. Through this program it is estimated that we will have contact with an estimated 500,000 walk, talk or e-mail drivers per year. For some drivers, it's an opportunity to meet with thousands of other drivers sharing related health problems and gain the benefits derived from working towards a goal while in the midst of their peers. We hope
that we've interested you enough to at least visit our website Here's to a healthy America and healthy truck drivers. Thanks for your time! Barry L. Pawelek Sr. Barry@truckdrivershealth.com Truck
